Welcome to a Transformation in Digital Community

Social media has been at a roadblock for a while now. And it’s been stuck at a place that has been less than stellar for all of us. From misinformation, hyper partisanship, antagonism, and general displeasure, we’ve all heard the complaints and experienced the pain points firsthand.

LiveVybe was started to take us somewhere new and better.

It was founded on a few moments of insight, some deep thinking, and a lot of dedication. Beginning as university research before moving to a tech incubator, LiveVybe is a considered vision and understanding of where to go next for online communities.

LiveVybe’s founding principle is that the essential way social media has fallen short is in appreciating the full range of human social-emotional experience. And, more to the point, that something better can be built, that is more fun and better for us.

The old Platforms Were Limited From Their Start.

In hindsight it shouldn’t be surprising that existing platforms have fallen short. One reason for the shallow layer of experience they deliver is–to be blunt–that they were built on original visions that were also somewhat shallow.

At their inception, the existing platforms were fundamentally designed around incidental messaging and gossip, and although there has been some evolution, this base-layer understanding of human communication has really defined most of what these platforms have done since.

At large scales the limitations of this origin and the sensibility that goes with it are obvious–the existing platforms, while fun and useful at times, are a veneer of human social-emotional experience. One observation, written about in our recent white paper, drives this home more than any other:

it is currently possible to be an avid user of existing social media, even though using it, makes you miserable.

This has to change.

A Better Experience From Deeper Beginnings

At LiveVybe, we believe that social media is not inherently limited, but the foundation on which the previous platforms were built, is. Which is why LiveVybe has pursued a deeper, more considered vision of digital community–a vision that is the foundation for a new space that accesses a bigger, fuller vision of social-emotional life.

Starting from the ground up, LiveVybe is building this vision into every part of this new space.

The Notion of a Vybe

Vybes are a whole new way of connecting and sharing. The creation of Vybes through combining moods, goals, attitudes, interests, and character traits creates a layer of expression that allows us to be more of our complete selves online. This makes it possible to build greater affinity with others, leading to stronger and more authentic connections that are more fulfilling and fun.

Goals as a Fabric of Connection

We all have goals, big and small. They represent our values, our interests, and our desires. LiveVybe appreciates this aspect of life by making goals a way of itemizing, searching, and engaging the people, places, events, and content in your digital space.

Control Your Moods and Goals

One of the most profound ways current social media fails us is in the use of automated software (algorithms) to model who we are behind the scenes and make content recommendations based on what it guesses we want. If you stop to think about this practice and its implications things get unsettling fast. As our white paper argues, this modeling and feedback of users probably interferes with our freewill and self-determination.

But it doesn't have to be this way. LiveVybe restores your agency and creates a more satisfying digital environment by letting you tailor the moods and goals you want your media experience to offer you. The content, influencers, notifications, and people in your social environment can all be filtered according to the mood you want to be in and the goals you want to achieve, and then easily reset after a period of your choosing.

So, if you want to be in a certain mood for the weekend, set your filter and your environment will reflect that mood. And whether you want to bake a pie, kick a habit, or conquer the world, you don’t have to do it alone. Set your goal filter, and your media content, along with your people recommends, will be curated to help achieve your ends. It’s like a self-help library and support group all in one, with just a few taps.

Organic Groups and Moderation

Ironically, communication has never been easier while community has never been harder. LiveVybe makes communities easy by giving you more ways to match your Vybe with a group.

You can create different Vybes for different groups, and slide between groups with a swipe. You can turn privacy on and off for individual comments and discussion, mirroring the way we talk closely to each other at parties. And LiveVybe lets you work together, through easy anonymous voting, to transparently moderate your group in the fairest way possible. Far too often a small number of salty voices could bully a group to waver from a consensus just by being loud. But blind, randomized voting prevents this and other ill effects.

LiveVybe is also developing new ways to work together on questions and disagreements. Itemized instances of disagreements, questions, and debates can be created by highlighting sections of chat. Then, you can tag these chat sections as elements inside a conversation and request contributions or votes that solves the contentious item.

Join the Vision

Our aim at the outset of LiveVybe is to build on a foundation of new networking and engagement that matches the broader range of social emotional experience in a very real way–Vybes, moods, goals, and easier communities, are the pillars of this new foundation.

We don’t expect to be perfect, but by starting from the ground up, with new ideas and a deeper understanding of human experience, we hope we can build something fundamentally better together.

Please join the waitlist, to make this possible.
